Early spring outfits can get a little confusing. Mornings are chilly, afternoons warm up fast, and suddenly heavier fabrics don’t work anymore. That’s when lighter materials start showing up in your closet again.

At Krush Kandy, you’ll find plenty of pieces that work perfectly for this in-betweeny season.

Flowy dresses, breathable tops, and classic denim styles make it easy to put together outfits from spring fabrics that feel comfortable as temperatures start to climb. And, when you start paying attention to fabric choice, you’ll notice a few materials popping up in early spring outfits again and again.

CHIFFON: SOFT, AIRY, AND MADE FOR SPRING

Chiffon has that light, floaty feel that instantly gives outfits a spring vibe. The fabric drapes softly, which is why it's such a hit when used in dresses and blouses.

This material is made from tightly twisted yarns woven in plain weave. Many chiffon spring fabrics are also slightly sheer, which is why layering often becomes part of the design. You can pair your chiffon with jackets, cardigans, fitted blazers, and belts so you can adjust your outfit as the spring weather shifts.

Most chiffon fabrics range from about 20 to 70 GSM. Lower weights feel very delicate, while slightly heavier chiffon still keeps that soft drape while adding a little more structure.

At Krush Kandy, this kind of fabric is a staple in spring styles that feel more relaxed, such as our stunning Bold Floral Chiffon Blouse.

CARING FOR CHIFFON

Since chiffon is such a lightweight fabric, it also benefits from a little extra care during washing and drying. Taking a few simple steps can help keep chiffon pieces looking great and prevent snags or damage.

  • Washing on delicate cycles

  • Using mesh laundry bags

  • Avoid high heat during drying. Air drying keeps this fabric looking fresh.

COTTON: BREATHABLE AND EASY TO WEAR

Lightweight fabrics like chiffon aren’t the only materials that are increasingly appearing as spring weather settles in. Cotton is another go-to choice. Cotton’s fibres allow air to pass through the weave and absorb moisture, keeping your outfit comfortable while still looking amazing.

At Krush Kandy, we use breathable fabrics like cotton in our relaxed tops, casual dresses, and ODDI Cotton Gauze Wide Leg Pants that work well for everyday outfits. Lightweight cotton usually falls between about 70 and 150 GSM.

CARING FOR COTTON

Compared with delicate fabrics like chiffon, cotton is much simpler to keep in good shape. Most pieces handle regular washing and don’t need any special treatment, but implementing some maintenance steps is a great idea:

  • Wash with similar colours

  • Use regular wash cycles

  • Remember to remove garments from the dryer promptly to reduce wrinkles

Cotton also responds well to ironing, which makes it easy to refresh shirts and dresses when you want a crisper finish.

DENIM WEIGHTS YOU’LL SEE IN SPRING

Many spring outfits mix these lighter, more breathable fabrics with another wardrobe staple: denim. While cotton brings softness, denim adds structure.

The biggest difference often comes down to weight. Denim weight is measured in ounces per square yard, indicating how thick and flexible the fabric is. Lower ounce numbers mean softer, lighter denim that drapes a little more easily. Higher numbers create a thicker fabric with tighter shapes.

Many everyday jeans sit slightly higher, weighing in at around 10-12 oz. This midweight range balances durability with comfort, which is why it’s so common in classic denim styles. However, spring denim often falls somewhere around 6 to 10 oz.

This range tends to feel noticeably lighter while still keeping that classic denim look. You’ll usually see these weights used in pieces like relaxed jeans, denim shirts, casual dresses in this material, and jean skirts, or our gorgeous Frayed Denim Pocket Shirt Jacket.

CARING FOR DENIM

Since denim tends to be worn more often than other, more breathable fabrics like chiffon and cotton, the way you care for it can make a noticeable difference in how well it holds its colour and shape.

  • Wash denim inside out to help reduce fading

  • Use cold water to protect the color

  • Avoid frequent washing and rely on spot cleaning for the most part. Don’t toss your denim in the machine until it’s 100% necessary

Spring weather might be unpredictable, but caring for your denim doesn’t have to be.

SPRING FABRICS YOUR CLOSET WILL LOVE

Once spring outfits start getting lighter, your fabric choice makes a big difference. Chiffon brings that floaty, effortless look, cotton keeps everyday outfits comfortable through long days and hectic nights, and lighter denim weights make wearing classic styles much easier.

Paying attention to fabric weight and texture can make picking out spring pieces surprisingly simple. When you know what to look for at Krush Kandy, putting together cute outfits that work through changing weather is pretty much effortless!
